River Borne Outfitters offers group and private fly fishing classes all season long. The fly fishing classes are a great way to speed up your learning curve and help you maximize your time on the water. Fly casting lessons are also available. Single and two handed Spey casting lessons are taught locally here in Bend and our Deschutes River Fly Shop and Camp and are by the hour.
The fly fishing classes are a great option for those that are new to the sport or for those that just need a refresher. The fishing classes are a great group and team building activity for families or corporate retreats.
Beginning Fly Fishing
It is a 2.5 hour class in which we cover:
All this, and as many questions, and as much casting practice as we can fit in.
A syllabus with knot diagrams and a fly rod rental is included.
Beginning Clinics are $75 per person, two person Min.
Classes are taught in Bend and at our Deschutes River Fly Shop and Camp.
Beginning Fly Fishing, Crooked River
This is a six hour class. The first two hours are taught at a local park in Bend receiving the same material and casting instruction as the Beginning Fly Fishing Class. After the two hours, we will head to the Crooked River where we will learn basic fly fishing skills and techniques. Topics and material covered on the river are similar to Intermediate Class. You should plan on spending the whole day participating in this class.
$200 per person, for 2 people, $175 per person for 3 or more.

This is our best option for clients coming from Portland. The first two hours are spent at our Deschutes River Fly Shop learning about the basic equipment, terminology, knot tying, entomology, fly selections, etc... On the lawn in front of the fly shop we then learn the basic fundamentals of fly casting. After the first segment we wader up and head to the river which is within walking distance or a short drive from the shop for a 4 hour walk in guide trip. The Deschutes River Fly Shop and Camp is 2.5 hours from Portland, and an hour from Bend! A cabin rental and camping is available on site if you want to stay over either prior to your class or after!

Intermediate Fly Fishing, Crooked River
These are intermediate level classes taught out on the Crooked River.
Most students will have some experience, but would like more instruction on fishing rivers.
These are four hours classes in which we will cover:
$150 per person for two, $125 per person for 3 or more.
Fly rod, wader and boot rentals are included.
A fishing license is required, and not included.
Advanced Fly Fishing, Deschutes River
This is basically a Deschutes River guide trip with a heavy emphasis on instruction; including dry fly and nymphing techniques, basic and advanced riggings, entomology, fly selection, knot tying, reading water, drift boat handling, etc... This class is catered to the level and desires of the students.
$240 per person/ 2 person Min
Boaters Passes, Tribal Permits, and fishing licenses not included.
Deschutes River Steelhead Clinics
A steelhead class taught along the banks of the Deschutes River. Focus is on where and how to for catch steelhead on the Deschutes River. Topics include spey casting, swinging flies, nymphing, reading water, equipment, flies, etc...
