Read on to learn a little more about Deschutes River overnight floats and what to expect...

Trout Creek - Maupin Float

During the trout season (May-August) the most popular multi-day float on the Deschutes is from Trout Creek to Harpham Flat. Most clients find lodging the night before the trip in either Bend, Redmond, or Madras. The meet spot is our Deschutes River Fly Shop and Camp where we you can make final preparations including arranging shuttles (we help set up) buying boaters passes, purchasing flies, and any other last minute items you may have forgotten or need, we then head to to the put in. Most preparations need to be in order before the launch date. We will have the boats, camp gear, food and beverages, (let us know ahead of time if you have any dietary restrictions) ready to go.

When we arrive at the launch, our camp host (the bagger) will have dry bags for you to put your gear in. Anything you don't need for the day of fishing will go with him. The bagger will immediately launch, racing down stream to secure and set up a camp. The clients and guides take their time fishing their way down to camp, with a stream side shore lunch being the only real obligation of the day!

Typically Trout Creek to Maupin is done in three to four days. We usually arrive at the boat ramp on the last day between 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. and are back to Bend by 6:00 p.m. We run steelhead trips on this section of the Deschutes in the fall, the itinerary is the same except for an earlier meet time.

Macks Canyon - Columbia

Are noisy sleds ripping up and down the river not your thing? Yet you still want a crack at those early steelies? Well then book a overnight drift boat trip during the four day window that the sleds are required to be off the river! Float, fish and camp while enjoying the peace and quite of a motor boat free river.

Overnight camp trips on the Lower, lower Deschutes from Macks Canyon to the mouth in August and September for early steelhead.

Use an outfitter and a bag boat to help you secure a camp and make sure your on A+ water!

Lodging for the night prior to the trip can be found in Maupin, Madras, Bend, and even Hood River. It all depends on where you are coming from. All logistics are the same as the other float.
